STORY DETAIL

Name:

Maxine Yvette Hart

Business Name:

“A Touch of Max”

Ms. Maxine Hart founded, “A Touch of Max” Beauty Salon, in July 1998 at the Watapana Mall, Christiansted, St. Croix. Her vision was to have the ultimate hair salon in St. Croix – a company where excellence and impeccable service are the standards, a relaxed atmosphere with an energy level that can only be associated with progressive work in action. A Touch of Max was positioned to be the salon at the cutting edge of fashion, while capturing the essence of classic style.

Since its conception both the salon and Ms. Hart have had phenomenal growth. Accepting that phenomenon, Ms. Hart yearned for a larger and more expansive location where the demographics and space were compatible to her dreams and after 6 months of continuous search; she found one that suited her every need nestled in the heart of Historic Downtown Frederiksted. In order to pursue her dream, Ms. Hart came to the VI SBDC eager with anticipation of expanding and relocating her salon. She sought our assistance to develop a business plan and achieve success in securing capital. During the relocation period, Ms. Hart faced many challenges and obstacles yet she held onto her faith and persevered. Today, her clients are lavished with the gift of a relaxing human touch paired with her undivided attention in an environment that’s beautiful, comfortable, relaxing, friendly and professional.

Ms. Hart has received many accolades and awards for her talent, creativity, and devotion in the beauty industry: to name a few: In 1999, she was recognized as one of America’s top 100 stylists at the Bronner Brothers Hair Show in Atlanta, Georgia. She was featured in Heart and Soul magazine in 2002, and recognized as 2009-2010 International Who ’s Who among Business Professionals. Active in the St. Croix community, Ms. Hart is President of the St. Croix Beauty Culturalist Professional Association, and countless organizations.

Maxine’s philosophy is: “Measure success, not by where you are today, but by where you aspire to be tomorrow… always look ahead to see the possibilities, for once you believe you have achieved all you need to know, you will stop growing...”
