Procurement: A Small Business Jobs Act Special Initiative

The Virgin Islands Small Business Development Center established its Procurement Division through grant funding under the Small Business Jobs Act (SBJA) received from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). Under its Procurement Division, the VI SBDC has been able to offers trainings and networking opportunities through its "Procurement Luncheons", which are held monthly territory-wide. Procurement Luncheons expose individuals, managers and business owners who are interested in doing business with federal and local government agencies with information and opportunities to include, but not limited to the following:

  • The process involved in becoming SBA 8(a) and HUBZone certified.
  • Meet government contract specialists and contractor whom have graduated from the 8(a) program.
  • Learn how to prepare accurate estimates for bids.
  • The importance of accounting for small businesses.
  • Bonding and how to secure bonding.

Braddock’s Procurement Opportunities Guide • 2013 Edition is a primer designed to help small-business owners and decision-makers understand the government procurement and private-sector procurement. The Guide provides an overview of government and corporate markets with an emphasis on who buys and how buying decisions are made. It also presents “next-step” resources for federal and state governments and the private sector.  This special ASBDC PDF edition of Braddock’s Procurement Opportunities Guide is available at no charge to SBDC clients thanks to the generous support of Microsoft Corporation.
